Workshop on the Use of Analytical and Microbiological Equipment for Food Safety Researches
One of the main functions of the center is to provide food safety-related training to students and researchers, this initiative aimed to inspire young innovators to actively engage in food safety training while gaining valuable, hands-on experience with analytical and microbiological equipment. The workshop provided participants with the opportunity to explore and apply advanced laboratory techniques, enhancing their skills and knowledge in the field of food safety research. The activity was participated by 30 researchers, including students from BU College of Science (BUCS), BU College of Engineering (BUCENG), and BU College of Industrial Technology (BUCIT). The activity was spearheaded by the Bicol University Regional Center for Food Safety and Quality Assurance (BU RCFSQA).
“The use of Analytical tools for Food Safety Researches” provided an in-depth discussion on the use of analytical equipment for food safety researches. The activity highlighted the functions, principles and utilization of several analytical equipment, offering valuable insights into how they are applied in food safety studies. The resource speaker, Ms. Laura Ruby R. Napa, the Director of Laboratory and Instrumentation Department of UST Legazpi. Her talk focused on the Overview of Quality Management, Assurance and Control for Laboratory Analysis.
Ms. Napa emphasized the crucial roles of Quality Management (QM), Quality Assurance (QA), and Quality Control (QC) in laboratory analysis. She discussed how QM ensures the overall effectiveness of the laboratory’s processes, while QA focuses on maintaining the systems and procedures that guarantee the quality of results. QC, on the other hand, was highlighted as the practice of monitoring and testing to ensure that the results meet the established standards and specifications. The session underscored the interconnectedness of these components in maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of laboratory analyses, which are vital for ensuring food safety.
