RDMD execs, staffs clinched awards in 37th BU In-House Review of Completed RD&E Undertakings

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension – Research, Development, and Management Division (OVPRDE-RDMD) bags four awards in different agenda during the 37th Bicol University (BU) In-House Review of Completed Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) Undertakings held via Zoom last March 20-21 2025.
Dubbed as “Transforming Ideas into Impact: RD&E Contributions to the SDGs”, the In-House Review was divided into five agenda with two categories, research and development, tackling: Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (AANR); Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies (IEET); Health And Health Systems Management (HHSM); Climate Change Adaptation And Disaster Risk Reduction And Management (CCA-DRRM); and Inclusive Education And Lifelong Learning (IELL) with seven sub-agenda.
Among 55 paper presentations of various researchers from different educational and research institutions, four research authors from RDMD were awarded in the said event.
Moreover, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Dr. Lany Laguna-Maceda who co-authored the paper titled “Needs-Based Assessment of Quantitative and Qualitative Data Using Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education (UAQTE) Domain” bags First Place in the Research Category of Agenda 2: Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies. Addition to this, under the Development Category of the same agenda, the paper titled “Development and Cloud-Based Management of BOSES KO Toolkit for Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education (UAQTE)” which is co-authored by Dr. Lany Laguman-Maceda and Dr. Jennifer L. Llovido of the OVPRDE – RDMD – DBD, also took the top spot.
Meanwhile, Prof. Joseph Martin Mape took the Second Place of the Research Category under the Agenda 1: Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources for his paper entitled, “Genetic Fingerprinting and Validation of Locally Identified Sinarapan and Sinarapan- Like-Species”.
Additionally, RDMD Director Prof. Elmer Lorenzana along with Prof. Amabella De Luna grabs the Third Place in the Research Category of the Sub-Agenda D: Efficiency in Educational Governance and Management under the Agenda 5: Inclusive Education And Lifelong Learning through the paper they co-authored titled, “Stakeholders’ Consultation: Participatory Needs Assessment and Development Intervention Planning in Vinzons, Camarines Norte”.
Lastly, in an inspiration message, Bicol University President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres III expressed his gratitude to the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension as he acknowledged the efforts and contributions of the OVPRDE for making research ‘reachable and possible’ for university’s faculties and staff.
Furthermore, Pres. Nebres III also highlighted the key role of the OVPRDE in its commitment in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs): “ As a University for humanity for sustainable societies we have the responsibility to ensure that our RD&E engagements are responsive to the Sustainable Development Goals.”
