OVPRDE successfully conducted 39th BU In-House Review of Completed RD&E Undertakings

The 39th In-House Review of Completed Research, Development, and Extension (RD&E) undertakings of Bicol University was successfully held on March 26, 2026, via Zoom Conference, with the theme “Empowering Knowledge, Advancing the Future of RD&E”.

The program was formally opened by Dr. Lany L. Maceda, Vice President for RDE. In her remarks, she highlighted that the event provides an opportunity to reflect on the university’s completed work. She emphasized that knowledge becomes meaningful when it is shared, reviewed, and applied to the needs of communities, industries, and educational institutions. An inspirational message was delivered by Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III, SUC President IV, who encouraged researchers to remain committed to producing relevant and impactful studies that contribute to development and innovation.

The program also included the introduction of participants by Dr. Marcia Corazon P. Rico, EMD Director, a briefing on the RD&E forum mechanics by Dr. Elmer A. Lorenzana, RDMD Director, and the introduction of the panel of evaluators by Prof. Ava Nicole B. Azotea, Technical Staff of the FIC.

The event featured completed research, development, and extension undertakings from 2023 to 2025. A total of 113 undertakings were presented, consisting of 88 and 25 submitted entries under the Research and Development categories respectively. These were classified under five (5) RD&E agenda areas: (1) Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR); (2) Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technologies (IEET); (3) Health and Health Systems Management (HHSM); (4) Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CCA-DRRM); and (5) Inclusive Education and Lifelong Learning (IELL), each with corresponding sub-agenda topics.

Presentations were conducted through simultaneous parallel sessions using Zoom breakout rooms. In these sessions, researchers presented their completed studies, while assigned evaluators provided feedback, comments, and recommendations. A Certificate of Commendation was awarded to each evaluator and presenter. The overall agenda winners will be announced during the BU Research, Development, and Extension Awards.
