GCED in Action: BU Pre-Service Teachers Promote Global Citizenship Through Teaching Demo

Daraga, Albay — April 8, 2025 — Pre-service teachers from Bicol University College of Education took center stage at Daraga North Central School as they successfully conducted their culminating Teaching Demonstration for the Mentoring Program on Global Citizenship Education (GCED).
The demonstration marked a significant milestone in the program, as participants applied the principles, strategies, and values they had acquired throughout the series of online and onsite mentoring workshops. In a simulated classroom setting, they showcased GCED-integrated lesson plans designed to promote peace, human rights, diversity, sustainability, and global interdependence.

Guided by faculty mentors Dr. Rebecca Rosario O. Bercasio and Mr. Sixto O. Gonzales, the participants demonstrated their ability to implement participatory and learner-centered teaching approaches. They also designed meaningful assessment tools and encouraged inclusive, reflective learning environments. Ms. Marinel S. Dugan, a GCED volunteer, provided additional support through Google Classroom, offering asynchronous mentoring and constructive feedback.
The activity directly addressed the program’s core objectives—equipping future educators with the pedagogical skills to contextualize GCED themes, foster critical thinking, and nurture respect for cultural and global diversity in their future classrooms.

This teaching demonstration served not only as an assessment of teaching proficiency but also as a testament to the participants’ commitment to transforming education. Their performance reflected a deep understanding of how GCED can empower students to become informed, responsible, and compassionate global citizens.
As the mentoring program draws to a close, the success of this demonstration signals a promising future for these pre-service teachers as they step forward to build more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable learning communities.
