From Demo to Discovery: Feedback and Reflection Shape Pre-Service Teachers’ GCED Journey

Daraga, Albay — April 23, 2025 — In a pivotal step along their Global Citizenship Education (GCED) journey, pre-service teachers from Bicol University College of Education (BUCE) gathered for a formative feedback and reflection session at the BU University Library Discussion Room.

Titled “From Demo to Discovery,” the session followed the participants’ recent GCED-enriched teaching demonstrations and provided an opportunity to refine their instructional practices through constructive mentoring. The reflective activity emphasized the importance of thoughtful integration of GCED themes—such as peace, diversity, sustainability, and human rights—into lesson content, strategies, and assessments.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Rebecca Rosario O. Bercasio, lead mentor and Director of the BU Center for Teaching Excellence, with support from Mr. Sixto O. Orzales, BUCE faculty, and Ms. Marinel Dugan, GCED volunteer. They provided individualized feedback and guidance to help participants deepen their pedagogical alignment with GCED principles.

Pre-service teachers shared their experiences, challenges, and insights in a safe, collaborative environment that encouraged professional growth and critical self-reflection. The session served as a vital space for improving instructional materials and building confidence in applying GCED in real classroom contexts.

This mentoring session is part of the broader GCED Mentoring Program for Pre-Service Teachers, which began in January 2025 and will culminate in a Closing Program on May 9. The program’s overarching goal is to prepare future educators to become advocates of global citizenship—equipped with the values, strategies, and tools necessary to inspire inclusive, informed, and socially responsible learners.

With a focus on participatory learning, individualized coaching, and capacity-building, the GCED mentoring initiative continues to shape a new generation of globally competent teachers ready to make a transformative impact in education and beyond.
