The Bicol University Center for Teaching Excellence proudly celebrates a momentous achievement as its Center Director clinched the Best Paper Award in the Inclusive Education and Lifelong Learning – Global Citizenship category at the 37th In-House Review of Completed Research held by Bicol University. Notably, the winning paper was also hailed as the Overall Best Paper in the Research Category, affirming its relevance and academic rigor.
Titled “Global Citizenship Education Capacity-building in Bicol, Philippines: An Assessment toward a Model for the Critical Empowerment of Teachers,” the study received high praise from the panel of evaluators for its clarity, depth, and transformative contribution to education. Central to the paper is a proposed Model for the Critical Empowerment of Teachers, which encapsulates four essential components:
🔹 Capacity-building
🔹 Continuum of opportunities
🔹 Connection and collaboration
🔹 Contextualized instruction
The research draws from extensive data gathered through four batches of Regional Training on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in Bicol, as well as the Mentorship Project on GCED—a scale-up initiative designed to deepen and sustain the outcomes of the regional training efforts.
This recognition not only honors the scholarly excellence of the Center Director but also pays tribute to the collective efforts of the participants, mentees, resource persons, demonstration teachers, facilitators, and volunteers involved in the GCED initiatives. Their dedication to empowering educators and fostering a culture of global responsibility continues to make a lasting impact in classrooms and communities across the region.
As Bicol University continues to pursue academic leadership and global engagement, this milestone underscores its unwavering commitment to inclusive, transformative, and research-based education.
