Regional Center for Food Safety and Quality Assurance
Shall undertake research to produce innovative technologies, build market confidence in local products for exports by providing high-end laboratory services, and build a pool of science experts by training academic and science personnel. It shall:
Conduct research on the food safety and quality assurance of Bicol exportable products;
Initiate collaborative research programs participated by the different higher education institutions and agencies for the improvement of local food products;
Provide efficient food laboratory services for researchers, students, foodrelated MSMEs, and other industry partners based on standards;
Serve as a university showcase of laboratory activities that deliver high-quality laboratory services with a safe and secure working environment for students and educational institutions in the region;
Provide food-safety-related training, workshops, and seminars for interested individuals and institutions; and
Review and monitor RDE undertakings under the disciplinal coverage of the Center.
Center for Technology Commercialization and Enterprise Development
Shall facilitate the commercialization of technologies through business enterprise development and market promotion. It shall specifically:
Function as technology business incubation of educational and research outputs of the students and faculty members;
Facilitate the development of tech-briefs and portfolios for generated technologies as a tool for product promotion and/or commercialization;
Collaborate with business industries and organizations to be able to promote knowledge and technologies that the community can adopt;
Access funding assistance to finance the start-up and spin-off of generated technologies;
Provide assistance to technology generators, enterprises, business industries and organizations along technology development, business enterprise, and management through capacity building, promotion and transfer of knowledge and technologies; and
Review and monitor RDE undertakings under the disciplinal coverage of the Center.
Center for Teaching Excellence
Shall be an academic support unit that aims to promote a culture of excellence in teaching within the University and the region through responsive, innovative, and research-based initiatives and undertakings. The center shall:
Offer quality professional development programs/projects /components and services to Bicol University faculty as well as to educators and teachers in the Bicol Region;
Conduct and or assist in the conduct of research or initiatives that aim to inform, improve, and innovate teaching and learning practices;
Provide alternative academic support to students across levels and disciplines and students in Teacher Education Programs both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, along with research and instructional practices;
Work collaboratively with the relevant centers and offices in the University in offering blended or flexible learning programs to both faculty and teachereducation students;
Engage in partnership with colleges or units of the University to establish faculty learning communities to strengthen sharing of good practices;
Promote excellence in teaching through scholarly undertakings in Bicol University through training, seminars, or conferences with local and international partners; and
Review and monitor RDE undertakings under the disciplinal coverage of the Center.
Regional Center for Science and Mathematics Education Development
Shall develop initiatives to improve the teaching and learning of science and mathematics by developing responsive professional development programs, innovative curricula, relevant research, and outreach activities. It shall:
Provide continuing education programs to upgrade the professional knowledge, skills, practices, and attributes of science and mathematics educators;
Design and develop curriculum and instructional materials that address institutional and regional development concerns and challenges;
Conduct and support significant RDE activities for the generation of knowledge and evidence-based reforms;
Conduct STEM promotion and outreach activities to promote science and mathematics literacy;
Disseminate innovations and findings of RDE activities through various modes of communication;
Review and monitor RDE undertakings under the disciplinal coverage of the Center; and
Engage in institutional collaboration to enhance science and mathematics education in the region.
Center for Policy Studies and Development
Shall convene the discipline experts from the university’s different units to conduct policy-oriented research and development programs concerning the region’s socioeconomic development. It shall specifically:
Establish linkages with public and private sectors and serve as a venue for policymakers, scientists, researchers, and the general public to identify and define relevant problem areas for policy studies, as well as to evaluate existing and proposed policies concerning the socioeconomic development of the region;
Lead in the comprehensive and trans-disciplinary research on public policy issues affecting socioeconomic development in the region;
Disseminate results and recommendations of policy analysis conducted through appropriate modes of communication;
Organize training programs and advocacies to help improve policy-oriented research;
Provide advisory and technical assistance services for public and private sectors, policy research, and program development and administration; and
Review and monitor RDE undertakings under the disciplinal coverage of the Center.
Bicol Regional Food Innovation Center
Shall develop and implement integrated RDE for the University, the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs), and the food industry in the region to transform concepts into food products and maximize the value of agricultural and fishery resources. The center shall:
Conduct research in collaboration with faculty, students, and support staff on food innovation and the selection of appropriate packaging materials;
Provide capacity building and technical assistance for faculty, students, MSMEs, and other stakeholders to upgrade good manufacturing operations and food processing systems, food processing standardization, and selecting packaging materials for food products;
Establish partnerships and linkages with other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), MSMEs, and other research institutions to develop the competencies of Bachelor of Science in Food Technology (BSFT) students, provide facilities, and implement collaborative research programs to improve local food products; and
Review and monitor RDE undertakings under the disciplinal coverage of the Center.
Fabrication Laboratory
Shall provide an open-access high-tech workshop where people can develop custom-made things, including but not limited to digital fabrication and rapid prototyping for projects in various fields. Specifically, the Fab Lab Bicol aims to:
Conduct RDE on product development utilizing the latest technologies and capabilities offered at Fab Lab Bicol;
Provide capacity building and technical assistance for students, MSMEs, and other stakeholders on product development, prototyping, packaging, and other related services;
Establish partnerships and linkages to develop high-value products and prototypes;
Operate as income-generating shared service facilities catering to internal and external clients; and
Review and monitor RDE undertakings under the disciplinal coverage of the Center.
