Bicol University Showcased Plant-Based Pili Products and BOSES KO e-participation Toolkit at South Luzon Innovation Summit 2025

Legazpi City, Albay — April 29, 2025 — In a landmark exhibition of innovation and sustainability, Bicol University proudly presented its latest research outputs—including Pili Milk, Pili Cheese, Pili Mayonnaise, Energy Bar and BOSES KO—at the Innovation and Technology Transfer Summit – South Luzon 2025 with a theme “Bicol Innovation Express: Smart and Sustainable Solutions through Technology Transfer”, held on April 28–29, 2025 at the Pepperland Hotel, Legazpi City.

The plant-based products, developed from Pili Nut (Canarium Ovatum) and BOSES KO took center stage at the summit’s technology exhibit, which aimed to attract potential adopters and industry partners interested in commercializing the university’s research outputs. These research-based innovations highlight Bicol University’s commitment to sustainable food alternatives, agricultural innovation, and the economic potential of local resources.

The event organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region V, featured top officials including, Undersecretary for DOST Regional Operations Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang among others from the South Luzon Cluster. Guests participated in various sessions including reverse pitching, policy workshops, and tech talks on commercialization.

Attendees from academia, industry, and local government units were given the opportunity to taste and learn more about the pili-based products, which aim to strengthen food innovation in the Bicol region. The event also featured ceremonial openings, technology licensing signings, media press conference and the launch of the BiCoRSE (Bicol Consortium for Regional Startup Enablers).

The summit was livestreamed via DOST-Bicol page, further amplifying the visibility of local innovations and solidifying the region’s role as a hub for sustainable development and technology transfer.
