BFHE Roadshow 2025 continues in Naga City, tackles urgent education reforms

The Bikol Foundation for Higher Education (BFHE) Roadshow 2025 continued its series of educational discussions at Ateneo de Naga University on March 18. The event gathered more than a hundred representatives from higher education institutions (HEIs) in the province of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte.

Dr. Karol Mark Yee, executive director of the 2nd Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2), presented alarming data on the literacy crisis in Region V in his discussion on the topic, “Advancing Higher Education in the Bicol Region: Challenges, Opportunities”.

Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya, BFHE vice president and president of the University of Nueva Caceres, urged higher education institutions (HEIs) to collaborate within the region to address pressing issues in education in the Bicol Region.

Meanwhile, Dr. Alex B. Nepomuceno, dean of Bicol University College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) led the discussion on the importance of research and extension on bridging gaps in higher education.

Dr. Maria Luz T. Macasinag, BFHE auditor and president of Bicol College, discussed the BFHE’s plans and accomplishments, stressing the need for research collaborations among the HEIs in the Bicol region.

Further, BFHE expressed support for the EDCOM 2 report and its recommendation for the improvement of the Philippine Education System. BFHE commits to actively participate in the implementation of recommended reforms, particularly in areas that align with the Foundation’s mission.

The roadshow, which officially commenced at Sorsogon State University, Sorsogon City, on March 11, will have its final run on March 25 at Bicol University.

The roadshow is organized by the Bicol Foundation for Higher Education (BFHE), a non-stock, non-profit association of private and public higher education institutions accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in partnership with Bicol University and Commission on Higher Education.
