2025 RDE Awards Night Celebrates Growing Excellence in BU Research and Extension

Bicol University researchers and extensionists from various campuses, colleges, and units were recognized for their outstanding achievements in publication, presentation, extension, and intellectual property during the 2025 Research, Development, and Extension Awards Night, held at the Olympus Banquet, Vela Hotel, Legazpi City, on January 27, 2026.
In her opening remarks, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Dr. Lany L. Maceda expressed her appreciation for the steady growth of Bicol University’s research and extension initiatives, noting the increasing participation and productivity of faculty across campuses. She congratulated the awardees for their contributions and encouraged them to continue pursuing work that leads to meaningful outcomes. This was followed by an inspirational message from the University President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III, who likewise congratulated the awardees.

A significant highlight of the evening was the growth in the number of awardees and awards over the years. In 2024, the University conferred 158 awards, while in 2025, a total of 263 awards were presented—an increase of 105 awards and awardees. This growth shows the expanding research and extension productivity of the University and the strengthening culture of academic excellence across its campuses.
Messages from selected awardees further enriched the program, as they shared insights and experiences from their respective fields: Dr. Julie Ann M. Lustan, Publication Awardee; Dr. Samuel C. Bobiles, Best Paper Competition Awardee; Prof. Antonio Q. Baguiao Jr., Extension Practitioner Awardee; and Prof. Maria Cecilia Aguilar, Intellectual Property Awardee. The program concluded with a Message of Gratitude delivered by Dr. Marcia Corazon P. Rico, Director of the Extension Management Division, who acknowledged the collective efforts of everyone.
Bicol University upholds its commitment to excellence in research, development, and extension by recognizing the dedication and contributions of its faculty and staff in advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and serving communities.
