BUERB Leads Research Protocol Preparation Writeshop for Faculty Researchers

The Research Protocol Preparation Writeshop was organized by the Bicol University Ethics Review Board (BUERB) to strengthen the capacity of faculty research proponents in developing research protocols that are both methodologically sound and ethically compliant. The activity was conducted at the Bicol University College of Medicine in two batches—Batch 1 on February 28, 2025, and Batch 2 on May 27, 2025—with faculty participants representing various colleges and units across the University.

The writeshop was organized in response to the growing demand for research protocols that strictly adhere to ethical standards, particularly for studies involving human participants. With the increasing number of research proposals submitted to BUERB, the activity addressed the need for structured guidance on ethical principles, the ethics review process, and proper protocol preparation to ensure compliance with established policies and guidelines.

Through lectures, workshops, and hands-on sessions, the writeshop guided participants in understanding key ethical principles, the types of ethics review, and the standard procedures required for protocol submission. Emphasis was placed on integrating ethical considerations into research design, including privacy, confidentiality, risk management, and the development of informed consent documents.

By the end of the writeshop, participants had drafted or refined their research protocols and informed consent forms, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to submit ethically sound research proposals for review.
